Week 36: Almost Ready

November 03, 20253 min read

You’re in the final stretch, mama. Every ache, flutter, and sleepless night is a reminder that new life is near. The finish line is in sight, not just the moment you meet your baby, but the moment you see God’s faithfulness made visible in your arms.

Your Baby This Week

Your baby is plumping up, their skin is smoothing, and their features are becoming more defined, starting to look just like the precious face you’ll meet in a few short weeks. At this stage, your little one is practicing breathing and swallowing, and their sleep-wake cycles are becoming more organized, with periods of active and quiet rest.

Babies born at 36 weeks are considered “late preterm,” meaning they can often thrive outside the womb, but they’re still maturing and strengthening for their debut. Each kick and stretch is a beautiful sign that your baby is preparing for life in your arms.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” — John 16:33

Your Body This Week

You might feel a mix of anticipation and exhaustion, your body knows the work that’s coming. You may notice more Braxton Hicks contractions, pelvic pressure, or swelling as your body prepares for labor. Try to see these sensations as signs of progress, not frustration. God is using every moment to prepare both you and your baby for the sacred day ahead.

Prayer for the Week

Lord, grant me peace and patience in these final weeks. You are the Author of life and the Giver of every good gift. I praise You for bringing me this far and for sustaining me through each stage. As my body continues to prepare for birth, fill me with calm confidence in Your perfect timing. Let my baby grow strong and secure in these last days, and may Your presence surround us both.
Amen.

Encouragement

When you start to grow weary, remember that God is not only forming your baby, He’s forming you into a mother. He’s teaching you to lean on Him, to breathe deeply in His presence, and to find peace in His promises. You don’t have to do this alone. He’s already gone before you.
